How To: Download Your Info from Facebook

Did you know that Facebook has a new utility that allows you to download your online “self” to your hard drive? The time it takes depends on the size of your profile, but you’ll get an email when your download is ready with a link to download a .ZIP file with your profile pieces:

  • Photos and Photo Albums
  • Wall Comments
  • Events you have attended
  • Friends
  • Facebook Messages you’ve sent & received
It appears to go back to at least 2006 & is a good way to archive your “digital life.”
To download your profile:
1. Go to Account > Account Settings

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “learn more” next to “Download your Information”:

3. Follow Facebook through the steps to download your .ZIP file.
4. Extract it onto your computer & enjoy 🙂
