I just changed the color of my events on my Google calendar. And then magic happened. My mood lifted, and all of a sudden all of the events I was stressing over looked like fun; all of them! Allyson McMahon, co-owner of Three Rivers Air & Heat, is passionate about education: “I feel like education is a good solid foundation to start anything in life on the right foot. If people are educated, they are more able to give back. I believe that education helps not only the women who get the scholarships, but the community as a whole.”

To demonstrate her passion, Allyson has been an active member of Professional Women of St. Tammany since 2009. Allyson says, “Professional Women of St. Tammany helps me to leverage my giving to provide scholarships to 15 women; I have considered starting my own scholarship program, but my impact would be much more limited.”

This year, Three Rivers Air & Heat is taking their commitment a step further by donating $5 to the scholarship fund for every ticket sold to the Professional Women of St. Tammany’s “Reading, Writing, and Rhythm Rendezvous.” The event is on July 11, 2014, and tickets may be purchased online at: .

“We [Professional Women of St. Tammany] wanted to do something different; something fun,” McMahon says. “The Reading, Writing, and Rhythm Rendezvous fundraising event is designed to be a fun night out that even a spouse will enjoy,” she laughs.

The event will be held at the Lakehouse in Mandeville, and features entertainment by the Twilight Band, a fun photo booth by Anytime Booths, an open bar, raffle, and more! All proceeds from the event benefit the scholarship program.

Professional Women of St. Tammany is a nonprofit organization that strives to educate, promote and support all women in our community through networking, information, scholarships and workshops.

17 St. Tammany area women received $23,000 in scholarships in 2014. The goal for this year’s scholarship fund is $25,000.

Team Building Activities for Leadership Programs

In my experience with leading retreats and workshops for both youth and adult leadership programs, I find that participants love games- the more interactive, the better.

One of the most successful activities I’ve created is the “Art Gallery” game, which is especially useful to discuss the importance of good communication. Click here to download instructions and handouts: Teambuilding Activities- Art Gallery and Roommate Treasure Hunt

Art Gallery Instructions:

Coordinator prints copies of a photo/drawing that will be difficult to replicate. Example:

Photo is placed in room where Readers will go to observe (no one else can see photo).

Break group up into teams of 4. Ask extra players to volunteer as “cops” (description below) Don’t tell them until the end, but cops will judge the final artwork against the original to pick the winner.

Art Gallery Participant Instructions:

Choose one person in group to serve in the following roles:

  1. Artist
  2. Reader
  3. Narrator
  4. Interpreter


  1. Readers will begin the game. Readers will enter another room to look at an object. The reader’s job is to tell the narrator what they see. Readers can only talk to narrators.
  1. Narrators will be stationed in the hallway. The readers will be talking to the narrators, but narrators can’t talk back, use hand signals, or ask questions. The narrator’s job is to tell the artist what to draw. Narrators are ONLY allowed to talk to the artist.
  1. Artists will be stationed in the gallery with canvas and markers. Artists cannot speak during the game. The artist’s job is to draw what the narrator describes.
  1. Interpreters will be signaled to enter the gallery once the narrator on their team leaves. The interpreter’s job is to tell the reader what the art looks like.
  1. The cop’s job is to enforce the game rules by observing who is talking and making sure players are not talking out of turn!
  1. Game will last 30 minutes, then art will be judged!

How to generate leads on facebook (part 1)

It’s nice to feel “liked,” but “fans” generally do not equal “leads.”


Let’s look at an average Facebook Business Page. Call it Anna’s Bananas. As implied, they sell bananas. Anna decides to create a Facebook Page to sell more bananas. She loads it up with pictures of beautiful bananas, recipes, and banana specials. She invites all of her friends to like the page, and is disappointed when only some of them do.

So Anna decides to do a contest to get more fans on her page. She purchases an iPad and enters every new fan into a drawing to win it. She promotes it like crazy, and has over 100 new likes on her page at the end of the contest. Success, right?


Now consider whether Anna has generated “fans” or “leads.” She has over 100 new people to contact, but do they fit her target market? Does liking iPads have anything in common with liking bananas?generate leads on facebook


To generate quality leads on Facebook, your offers must be tied to your product or service. If Anna had given away a month of free bananas instead of an iPad, she probably would not have gained 100 fans. However, she may have gained 25 who were banana lovers. If someone wants it for free, they may also be willing to pay for it.

Program Details

Centerplate at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and New Orleans Arena is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic non-profit organizations to join its fundraising program.  Each season, members of non-profit organizations from the local area and as far as Alabama take ownership of concession stands at both venues to raise money.  One organization raised over $100,000 last season!

This program provides opportunities for your organization to earn money at a variety of sports and entertainment events, such as Saints and Pelicans games, Essence Festival, Sugar Bowl, and NBA All-Star Game.  We are proud to say that some of our groups have been with us for over 10 years.


Centerplate’s Human Resources department oversees the program.  The mission and goals of your organization must be well-defined and of a long-term nature.  The group must have a strong and committed leadership of 2-4 individuals, have a 501c3 tax-exempt status as defined by the IRS, and a minimum of 10 volunteers that are at least 16 years of age.  Volunteers that work as cashiers must be at least 18 years of age.

Send a card…Help 6 year old XAN get a million fans!

Alexander Nelson Moses (Xan) is a blonde haired, blue eyed, six year old boy who has a rare neurodegenerative disease that is progressively taking over his body and now his mind. His heart’s desire is to one day have “a million fans all over the world.”

When asked why he wanted a million fans, he answered that he wanted to change the world. When asked how, he replied, 

“Well, I have a purpose and it is to help others… You see, sometimes I’m really scared and I just keep being brave… So, if I keep being brave even when I’m scared then I’ll show people how to do it, too… Then, all the people I show everyday will want to be my fan!!”

Quite an impressive little boy! Especially considering he is living each day knowing it could be his last. Together, we can make his dream come true!
